How local search works
When someone searches for a service near them, eg. “electrician Bayswater” or “dentist near me”, Google usually shows a map with a handful of businesses above the regular results. Google says local results are based mainly on three factors.
The map results and the regular “organic” results below them are ranked differently, so effective local SEO works on both: your Business Profile for the map, and your website for the organic results.
01
How well your Business Profile and website match what someone is searching for. Accurate categories, a complete list of services and pages that clearly describe each service all help Google understand what you do.
02
How far your business is from the searcher, or from the place named in their search. Nobody can change where a customer is standing, so we make sure Google knows exactly where you are and which areas you serve.
03
How well known and trusted your business is. Google looks at signals such as reviews, links and mentions across the web, and how your website performs in search. This is where consistent, long-term work pays off.

Our local SEO services
Every campaign is built around how your customers search and the areas you actually serve. These are the building blocks we work with.
01
Categories, services, business description, opening hours and photos, set up accurately and kept current in line with Google’s guidelines.
02
Pages for each service you offer and the areas you genuinely serve, with the detail customers want, not near-identical suburb pages stuffed with place names.
03
A simple, compliant way to ask happy customers for Google reviews. No incentives and no fake reviews: they breach Google’s policies and can breach Australian Consumer Law.
04
Your business name, address and phone number kept consistent across directories, maps apps and industry listings, so Google can trust the details it finds.
05
Genuine mentions from local associations, suppliers, sponsorships, community groups and Perth media that build your prominence in the area.
06
Fast, mobile-friendly pages, clear contact details, click-to-call and accurate LocalBusiness structured data, so your website backs up your Business Profile.
07
Helpful content about the work you do in Perth, from project examples to answers to common customer questions, giving Google and customers more reasons to choose you.
08
Calls, direction requests and website visits from your Business Profile, plus enquiries from your local pages, reported in plain English.
Google Business Profile
Your Google Business Profile (previously called Google My Business) is often the first thing local customers see. It puts your business on Google Maps and in the map results, with your reviews, photos, opening hours and a button to call you.
Google renamed Google My Business to Google Business Profile in 2021, but the job hasn’t changed: give Google complete, accurate and current information about your business. A well-maintained profile helps you appear for more relevant searches and gives customers the confidence to call.
We also make sure your profile follows Google’s rules. Adding keywords to your business name, using a virtual office address or listing areas you don’t serve can get a profile suspended, and recovering from a suspension takes time you don’t want to lose.
Primary and secondary business categories
Services and products, with clear descriptions
Your business description and opening hours, including holiday hours
Service areas for businesses that travel to customers
Photos of your team, your work and your premises
Updates and offers that keep your profile active
A plan for earning and responding to reviews
Consistency with your website and other listings
Run a service-area business from home? You can hide your address and show the areas you serve instead.

Local SEO is the work of helping your business appear when people search for products or services in a particular area: in Google Maps, in the map results above the regular listings, and in the organic results for searches like “plumber Joondalup” or “accountant near me”. It combines your Google Business Profile, your website, your reviews and your reputation across the web.
Regular SEO focuses on ranking your website for relevant searches wherever they happen. Local SEO adds the signals Google uses for location-based searches: your Business Profile, how close you are to the searcher, your reviews and consistent business details across the web. Most local businesses need both. See our SEO Perth services.
Yes. Google renamed Google My Business to Google Business Profile in 2021. It’s the same free listing that shows your business on Google Maps and in local search results; only the name changed.
Google says local rankings depend mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. You can’t change where a searcher is, but you can improve relevance (accurate categories, services and website content) and prominence (reviews, links, mentions and a strong website). Adding keywords to your business name might look tempting, but it breaches Google’s guidelines and can get your profile suspended.
Fixing your profile details, categories and citations can make a difference within weeks, once Google has processed the changes. Building prominence through reviews, links and content takes longer, usually months, depending on how competitive your area and industry are. We’ll give you a realistic outlook after reviewing your market, and we never guarantee rankings.
You need a real address where you serve customers, or a service area if you travel to them. Service-area businesses, like many trades, can hide their address and show the suburbs they cover instead. Under Google’s guidelines, virtual offices and mailbox addresses generally aren’t eligible for a Business Profile.
Only where you genuinely serve customers and have something useful to say about that area. Dozens of near-identical suburb pages can be treated by Google as doorway pages, which can hold your whole site back. A few strong service pages, backed by real local detail and project examples, usually work better.
Yes. We set up a simple process for asking customers for a review at the right moment, with a direct link to your profile. We don’t buy, write or incentivise reviews: that breaches Google’s policies, and fake or misleading reviews can breach Australian Consumer Law.
Our SEO campaigns start from $1,000 per month. The investment depends on how competitive your industry is, how many services and areas you target, and the condition of your website and profile. See our SEO pricing, or ask us for a tailored quote.
Often, yes. AI tools such as Google’s AI Overviews and ChatGPT draw on much of the same information local SEO improves: your website, Business Profile, reviews and consistent listings. Learn more about AI SEO and GEO.
